Saint Peter Claver Chapel

On 10/31/1918, the community bought the land from Melânia Foss to build the first chapel. With families increasing a lot, the second chapel was built and, thus, the first chapel started to be used as a college, the first in the community.

The first chapels were built by the community residents themselves. The last one, by the engineer Vitor Ganz and the bricklayer Alfonso Grins, received help from the community with labor and also with money.

There is no record of the inauguration of the first two chapels. The current one was inaugurated on 09/12/1961 and the blessing of the Altar was in April 1969. In the beginning there was a certain dispute between two families to choose one of the Saints: São João or São Pedro. There was then a vote in the community. Saint Peter won, but they remembered that this was the Patron Saint of the Parish. So Father Carmine, the parish priest, researched and suggested Saint Peter Claver, with his beautiful story of evangelization. Everyone accepted.

Next to the Chapel there is the Cavichion Mill.

Leaving Casa Centenária and continuing for approximately 6.5 km, you arrive at Igreja Matriz São Pedro

Leaving the Igreja Matriz São Pedro and following for 5.2 km along Av. das Hortênsias, you arrive at the border with the municipality of Canela, ending the Gramado route.

As the municipality of Gramado has a second Chapel of Caravaggio located in the Várzea Grande neighborhood, there is an optional way to visit the Chapel. However, to get there it is necessary to go through Rodovia RS 115. The stretch is dangerous for walkers and cyclists, as it has no shoulder for most of the way.
